Introduction to Pottery Hand Building & Wheel Throwing Tuesday & Thursday Evenings June 20 – July 11 6 pm – 8 pm The TC Arts Council will host this pottery class entitled Introduction to Pottery. This is an introduction to basic hand building and wheel throwing. The course will run from June 20 – July 11. Classes will be on the following dates: June 20, 22, 27, 29, July 6, 11. Pottery Training for Camp Counselors June 6 & 8

Pottery Training for Summer Camp Counselors at TC Arts Council The Transylvania Community Arts Council in Brevard will be offering pottery training for camp counselors who will be working in or running the Pottery Programs at local summer camps. The course will run over two mornings, June 6 and June 8, and will focus on: the organization and set up of a studio for the summer, loading, unloading and firing a kiln, suitable hand building techniques and projects for children and an introduction to the wheel. On June 6 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. the participants will learn hand building skills that they can then teach to campers at their respective summer camps. During the June 8 workshop from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. participants will learn how to load and unload a kiln, how to fire a kiln, as well as how to set up your pottery studio. Everyone at this workshop will be able create their own screen and mix their own unique color of ink to print on the t-shirts they have provided. The first session will focus on image preparation as we learn how to translate your idea into an appropriate one color design and spend time editing images to make sure everything is “print ready”. Next, we will learn first hand how to properly coat, expose, print, and clean a silkscreen. Differences in inks, printing substrates, and screen mesh will all be discussed. In this one day workshop we will learn all of the basic skills needed to make professional quality one color hand-pulled relief prints. At the end of the workshop you will have a beautiful hand carved linoleum block, a set of 10 notecards, envelopes printed by you, and the skills to continue to print your block repeatedly for years to come.
