Color, Mixed Media and Collage on Various Surfaces

Mary Alice’s workshops are designed to encourage the students to take their art in exciting new directions. The 3 day classes will be working with a wide variety of gel mediums, mixed media, collage, and experimenting on different surfaces with various transfer techniques. Each student will be encouraged to find his or her unique personal direction whether working abstractly or representationally. Individual guidance and critiques will be offered daily as will a class critique on the final day. Each day builds upon the previous day. The workshops are a very hands-on experience. The goal will be to make our paintings sing and promote artistic growth. You\'ll ask “what if” and expand creative possibilities.

Everyone at this workshop will be able create their own screen and mix their own unique color of ink to print on the t-shirts they have provided. The first session will focus on image preparation as we learn how to translate your idea into an appropriate one color design and spend time editing images to make sure everything is print ready. Next, we will learn first hand how to properly coat, expose, print, and clean a silkscreen. Differences in inks, printing substrates, and screen mesh will all be discussed. A form of relief printmaking, block printing can be used for fine art, artists books, fabric design, t-shirts, tote bags, note cards, and many other creative projects. In this one day workshop we will learn all of the basic skills needed to make professional quality one color hand-pulled relief prints.
